A thin-layer chromatographic procedure for separation and quantitation of lipids in human seminal plasma is described. Seminal plasma was extracted with butanol, partitioned between chloroform and water, and the lower-phase lipid extract was recovered by evaporation. Lipids were separated by means of high-performance thin-layer chromatography on silica gel-coated plates using mixtures of chloroform, acetonitrile, and methanol as the mobile phase. Some quantitative differences in the lipid composition of seminal plasma are observed depending on the type of analysis: the phospholipid content of spermatozoa is less than that of the seminal plasma, and the cholesterol content of seminal plasma is about 50% lower than the cholesterol content of spermatozoa.

Charles Byrd was convicted of possession of marijuana in violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. See Code Ann. § 79A-801. He appeals, contending the trial court erred in denying his motion to suppress the evidence.
On appeal from the denial of a motion to suppress, the evidence must be viewed in the light most favorable to uphold the findings and judgment of the trial court. Teasley v. State, 145 Ga. App. 844 (245 SE2d 3) (1978).
